One of Florida’s most visited and photographed tourist icons, which had been damaged during Hurricane Irma’s passage, is back in Key West. The Southernmost Point of Continental, red, yellow, black and white concrete marker, denoting the southernmost point on the continent of the United States.
For the restoration of the monument, two local artists were hired. “It was virtually all the rebuilding of the marker,” said Key West Mayor Craig Cates.
Another important tourist icon in the region, the welcome sign of Club Rotary in the same city, will also return to its place of origin. Lost through the hurricane, the Rotary Club had offered a $ 8,000 reward for the object, which was returned by the local police.
Although disappearance and return are still mixed – according to the Florida Weekly portal, a couple would have tried to transport the packed plate at Fort Meyers – the residents did not wait long to return to their proper place and allow visitors.
