In anticipation of a more optimistic year-end in aviation and growing demand for flights, RIOgaleão expects an increase in the Tom Jobim International Airport’s movement of approximately 5% compared to the same period last year. In the previous high season, RIOgaleão offered about 8.5 million seats and now the number can reach 8.9 million, including new lines that will operate in the terminal to destinations such as Europe, United States, South America and Africa.
According to the consortium that manages the airport the quality of services provided coupled with the greater connectivity of the airport with other cities and the incentives offered have attracted airlines to the terminal. A comparison between 2017 and the 2018 forecasts shows that there should be an 8% growth in the offer of flight seats for Europe and the United States. For destinations in Latin America, the forecast increase is 3%.
RIOgaleão highlights demand for connections increased by comparing 2016 to 2017 – between domestic flights with 12% and domestic / international flights, 15%. The airport is one of Gol’s main hubs. In this way, the terminal easily connects with the main destinations of the North, Northeast, Southeast and South regions. In October, three lines added new flights frequencies and one line presents a new route.
NEW FLIGHTS – Alitalia added a frequency to Rome (Italy), starting to make daily flights; British Airways, which starts operating flights with the Boeing Dreamliner 787-8, has a new frequency to London (England), totaling six flights per week – from May 2018, the flight returns to the daily airport of Rio de Janeiro; and Royal Air Maroc, which already makes two weekly flights to Casablanca (Morocco), travels three times a week to the destination. To complete, LATAM begins operating the Rio-Lima flight (Peru) four times a week.
Starting in December, Sky Airlines, from Chile, will begin flying from Rio to Santiago three times a week. Among the new airlines launching their operations at RIOgaleão, Poland’s LOT Polish Airlines has confirmed 15 non-scheduled flights to take place between November of this year and March of next year.
In January 2018, Amaszonas Línea Aérea, from Bolivia, arrives at RIOgaleão to operate four weekly flights to Asunción (Paraguay). Aerolíneas Argentinas will make a weekly flight to Rosario (Argentina) and two weekly flights to Cordoba (Argentina). LATAM starts operating daily flights to Montevideo (Uruguay). Currently, the airline makes five weekly flights to the Uruguayan destination. GOL will have daily flights to Rosario (Argentina).
In the second half of 2018, in July, Aerolíneas Argentinas will perform a weekly flight to Cordoba (Argentina) and GOL will operate twice weekly to Mendoza (Argentina). RIOgaleão has 21 international airlines and four domestic airlines operating in 27 domestic and 29 international destinations.
