Tourism is growing more and more in Asia, as is the bar scene. The World’s 50 Best Bars ranking of 2017 was released in early October and includes 12 bars located in Asian countries. The list was made by the magazine William Reed Business Media and has opinions of 500 experts from the segment of 55 countries.

The highlight is rookie Atlas, an Art Deco-inspired gin bar in Singapore, which is 15th on the list. The establishment underwent a renovation earlier this year and also received the title of best new bar to appear in the ranking. With the inclusion, the country has six bars and is only behind the United States and United Kingdom.

Also on Singapore’s list are Operation Dagger (24th place), Hongkong Street (25th) and debutant on the Native (47th) list. “I think anyone who likes bars and has visited Singapore in the last two years is not surprised by the results,” said William Drew, editor of the group responsible for World’s 50 Best Bars.

Japan, Hong Kong, China also got good positions on the list. Speak Low, in Shanghai, China, reached tenth position, up from 2016, while others like the High Five (13th) in Tokyo and the Quinary and Lobster Bar (40th and 49th respectively), in Hong Kong, also continue to appear in the rankings.

With a growing number of new bars each week, Speak Low manager Atsushi Suzuki highlights the importance of ventures operating under a single concept to stand out in the crowd. “Nurturing the curiosity and inspiration of team members and striving to provide customers with an unforgettable and meaningful experience means that a bar is not overshadowed by their competition.”
