A seaside sand hostel has been voted the “dream hostel” by Australian Hostelworld fans, and the platform, recognized as the leader in hostel bookings in the world, has turned that dream into a reality! The dream came true for the Gold Coast residents who woke up this morning, Tuesday, September 19, to discover the first sand-made hostel by the sea.

Hostelworld and Gold Coast Tourism invited the Australian artist Dennis Massoud to create this imposing structure, built with the same golden sand that made the region famous. It took more than 24 tons of sand and 21 days to build the hostel in Broadbeach on the Gold Coast, Australia.

Designed by iconic production designer Jon Dowding – whose cinematographic works include the original Mad Max and The Blue Lagoon – the structure is not only a beautiful work of art, but a fully functional hostel that will be open to guests who want to sleep or socialize between the 20th and 22nd of September.

The Sand Hostel can be booked on the Australia hostels website at Hostelworld for the night of Thursday, September 21st, offering the lucky ones who guarantee the accommodation the opportunity to enjoy this unique experience.

During the day, surf lessons or masterclasses for drinks and cocktails will be available. In the evening, guests can relax in the eight-bed dormitory or in the luxurious private room, specially designed to offer comfort without losing the charm of the beach. In addition, the hostel will also offer yoga instructors, food trucks, beach volleyball, sand sculpture classes with Dennis Masoud, cooking class, fire dance performance, artisan beer tasting and also local musicians and DJs including Roland Tings DJ (DJ Set) and CC.Disco, to ensure guests have an authentic Gold Coast experience.

The idea of creating the hostel began when Hostelworld – the largest hostel booking platform in the world – asked their Facebook community to reveal their “dream hostel”. Most (59%) chose a giant castle in the sand as their favorite, just behind it was an urban temple for parties and a mountain retreat.

“We have done a project with Gold Coast Tourism and we want to challenge the perception about hostels and show that they function as incredible social centers, where other travelers can meet and create extraordinary memories. We listen to what our customers want and we create the hostel of all dreams on the Gold Coast, “explains Niall Walsh, head of acquisition at Hostelworld.

For the marketing manager of the booking platform, “Sand Hostel will offer the opportunity for some of the luckiest guests to immerse themselves in the local culture of the Gold Coast and interact with travelers from around the world with sand between the toes in a magical setting on the edge of the sea. It will be completely different from anything done before. ”

Gold Coast Tourism prefers to highlight the “Hostelworld project”, “a natural fit to show young travelers the real Gold Coast experience through the modern lodgings offered by the hostels. There is unexplained energy here, and we invite travelers to see how the Gold Coast has evolved, “said Dean Gould, executive director of corporate affairs and strategy. “Our unique coastal culture, the growing landscape of street food and craft breweries, iconic beaches and lush interiors set the stage for truly memorable experiences. We are thrilled that our guests discover these unforgettable moments so sought after by the millennial and abundant Gold Coast “, ends.
