Known for its traditional attractions, such as the Convent of Santo Domingo and the archaeological site of Puka Pukara, the Peruvian city of Cusco was cited as the possible seat of the first Disney theme park in South America. The idea came from Congressman Sergio Dávila, from the Peruvian party By El Kambio, who suggested a unit of the world’s most visited park in Latin American lands, as it already happens in Europe and Asia.
“We may have seen this as a dream, but I proposed a Walt Disney World of South America in Cusco, which would allow us to complement the historic Tourism that we already have with the modern park,” Davila told Gestión newspaper.
According to the president of the Peruvian Conventions Bureau, Carlos Canale, the project would cost more than US $ 1 billion if it was carried out, but it goes against the idea of tourism conceptualized in the destination. Home to cultural and historical attractions, Cusco would not be the best location for the installation of a theme park, explained the president, who suggested spaces closer to the capital Lima, such as the city of Ica.
