Finland is celebrating its centenary throughout the year with various events around the world. In all, there are more than 2,000 events and projects, emphasizing Finnish strengths such as equality and democracy. In Brazil, the celebrations also happen. On December 2, the Finnish colony of the city of Penedo, in Rio de Janeiro, will host a Finnish dance honoring 100 years of independence, as well as a presentation by the PKY folk group and an exhibition with photos by Finn Martti Aaltonen. These events will be open to the public with ticket collection.
The Consulate and the Embassy of the country in Brazil organized, at the beginning of the year, an exhibition of photos and videos during the Scandinavian Fair. The event, held annually in São Paulo, as always, was a great success. About 12,000 people were there and contributed to fundraising for charities. Representatives from Finland in Brazil celebrate their successful participation in the event and are already organizing for future 100 year celebrations.
