In a meeting, the National Forum of Secretaries and State Officers of Tourism (Fornatur) discussed reforms in the sector in order to move the Brazilian market. Especially with guidelines in the legislative sphere.
At the occasion, the secretaries defended the reduction of ICMS on aviation kerosene. According to the group, the unification of the ICMS rate will lower costs for airlines, which could increase the offer of flights and decrease the price of air tickets.
Senate Resolution No. 55/2015 is in the hands of the Infrastructure Services Commission and within a few days it goes to vote in the Plenary. According to the report, the idea is to reduce the tax, which today amounts to 25%, for a fixed incidence of 12%.
Another discussion was about turning Embratur into an agency. “The bill that is currently in the Chamber transforms Embratur into a modern agency, capable of competing with the countries of the continent and the entire world, with resources and financial independence,” said President Vinícius Lummertz.
For Lummertz, Brazil has the greatest tourism potential among all countries in the world. It can almost triple the current annual revenue of the sector, estimated in the last 12 months at approximately US $ 7 billion. The expectation is to move closer to $ 20 billion in revenue.
Besides these aspects, it was also defended the opening of casinos in Brazil. “The idea is to move the economy, generate jobs and attract tourists. For this, they should work together with integrated leisure complexes built specifically for this purpose, with hotel, bar and restaurant, “said Carreras.
Fornatur President Felipe Carreras is planning a meeting in the House of Representatives to discuss these and other issues.
