The city of Hamburg (1) in Germany has been recognized as the Best Night Life in the World according to an extensive survey conducted by Hostelworld, the leading global hostel booking platform for travelers looking for social experiences.

The survey found how residents of 41 cities in 27 countries rate the nightlife of their cities based on five categories – overall quality of nightlife (including fun and variety of options), receptivity and friendliness of locals how well the tourists feel welcome and the ease of meeting people), people’s sense of security, ease of transportation and transportation, and the total cost of the night out. (See Table 2 for more details on the categories).

Hamburg, Germany’s second-largest city, ranked first, followed by Copenhagen, Berlin and Dublin.

Table 1: The 10 Best Night Lives in the World
1. Hamburg (Germany)
2. Copenhagen (Denmark)
3. Berlin (Germany)
4. Dublin (Ireland)
5. Amsterdam (The Netherlands)
6. San Francisco (United States)
7. Gothenburg (Sweden)
8. Prague (Czech Republic)
9. Warsaw (Poland)
10. New York (United States)

Hamburg headed two of the five categories – “Receptivity and friendliness of the residents”, appearing as the city more open to tourists and the best place to meet new people, and ease of “Getting around”, thanks to its excellent public transportation and proximity to the most popular places in the city. Hamburg also came second with Copenhagen (2) in the “Overall Quality of Nightlife” category, based on the fun options and activity options available.

Copenhagen (2) almost took first place in the ranking, as the locals feel particularly safe during a night on the town, but lost for being the most expensive place. Berlin (3) ranked third, leaving Germany with two cities among the Top 3, and the place where locals are most satisfied with the cost of a night of fun.

Dublin (4), famous for its nightlife, has scored high in all categories and appeared in fourth place, only losing position among the Top 3 because the locals are not happy with the price of food, drink and entertainment. The top five finishers are Amsterdam (5), who, while scoring the same total score as San Francisco (6) and Gothenburg (7), came out ahead with their highest score in overall night quality, a criterion used as a tiebreaker.

San Francisco (6) and New York (10) are the only two cities outside of Europe in the Top 10 – with the city of Golden Gate ticking well in all categories, especially regarding the receptivity of the residents and the overall quality of the night , while the Big Apple scored well for food, drink and fun options as well as locomotion, but it was due in receptivity and safety, as well as appearing far below average when we talked about the total cost of a night out.

The cost of a typical night varied significantly throughout the world, with Berlin (3), Pretoria (15) and Jakarta (25) being voted by residents as the best cost / benefit. For an evening of less than £ 30, the five major cities were Prague (8), Warsaw (9), Pretoria (15), St Petersburg (17) and Mumbai (24).

Some cities that are among the destinations of the dreams of many travelers presented surprisingly low results in research, such as London (26), Rome (39) and Tokyo (41). Residents of last-minute Tokyo underscored the lack of fun, difficulty in getting around and poor value for money. London scored very well in the overall quality of nightlife, but it was owed in terms of cost, while residents of Rome complained about the difficulty of getting around the city.

Marek Mossakowski, general director of Branding at Hostelworld, said:
“The results of this study are fascinating, especially the performance of smaller cities – especially the positioning of Hamburg in front of Berlin. We know that young travelers are increasingly venturing out of the most common destinations to discover unique experiences, and this research demonstrates this Meeting people is an essential part of the journey and we hope this research will help in the pursuit of unique social experiences. “
