The disclosure of Destino Iguaçu, such as the launch of the Passport Three Wonders, helped boost Itaipu’s tourism numbers in the first month of the year. The plant recorded the best January of its history, with 126,371 visitors, considering the tourist and institutional visits of the two banks of the company – Brazilian and Paraguayan. In comparison with the same period last year, which held the previous record, the jump was 9.1%.

Only on the Brazilian side, the performance was even more expressive. The Itaipu Tourist Complex (CTI Brazil), responsible for the management of the sector, registered 85.5 thousand visitors in the last month, an increase of 11.2% in relation to January 2017.

Among the attractiveness of the Brazilian margin, the main highlight was the Ecomuseu, which had a visitation increase of 116.2%. The most sought after tour by tourists, the Panoramic Tour, also closed the month with a positive balance. The attraction received 58.4 thousand visits, compared to 47.9 thousand in January last year – an increase of 21.8%.

The tourism manager of the Brazilian bank of Itaipu, Alexandre dos Santos Pacheco, recalled that the movement of tourists in January is traditionally larger due to school holidays. However, the actions of dissemination of the destination and investments in the infrastructure contributed to increase the participation.

The main action, the Passport Three Wonders, launched in October, allows the tourist to buy at one time and with discount the entrance to three attractions of Foz do Iguaçu: the Iguassu Falls, the Three Frontiers Landmark and the Itaipu Binacional.

“The passport is an initiative unprecedented in the region, in line with what is best in the sector worldwide, and helps strengthen the integration of tourist attractions. This makes the visitor stay longer in the city and benefits the entire tourism chain in the region, “he said.

Alexandre Pacheco anticipated that other news will be released soon and the expectation is for new records broken this year. “We are preparing operationally and in tourist offer for a spectacular 2018,” he said.

Resident of the region does not pay

The residents of the trinational region and municipalities bordering Lake Itaipu do not pay admission to five attractions of the plant: Panoramic Tour, Dam Illumination, Biological Refuge, Astronomical Pole and Ecomuseum. In the Special Circuit and at Kattamaram Port, in addition to the Parking of the Visitor Reception Center (CRV), the discount is 50%.

In order to have the benefit, the resident must present proof of recent residence, accompanied by a photo document. Children under 18 years can present proof in the name of the parents.
