Skyscanner conducts an annual survey to leverage 2018 trend destinations. Having revealed the 2018 prospects, it is possible to identify a greater interest of travelers in connecting with the environment. That’s because eight of the top 12 cities in the ranking have ecotourism options, with breathtaking scenery and open air activities. The criteria used by the survey are the domestic and international searches conducted by Brazilians in 2017.

One such destination is Iceland, which even recorded the highest growth in searches: 48%. The country is known for its volcanoes, hot springs, great fjords, glaciers and waterfalls. Another European destination with a big increase in searches (40%) was Malta, which has paradisiacal beaches, cliffs, archipelagos and medieval buildings, scenarios that have served as locations for the series Game of Thrones and for the films Gladiator and Pirates of the Caribbean.

In South America, the highlights are the Atacama Desert and the Argentine Patagonia. The former is considered the most arid region of the planet and has lagoons, sand formations, salt and rocks, geysers and animals such as flamingos and vicuñas. The second is home to Bariloche, El Calafate and Ushuaia, and has many mountains, rivers and lakes, which gives the traveler the opportunity to ski, trekking, canoeing, diving and fishing.

Skyscanner also recommends the ideal time to purchase tickets to South American destinations. It is six weeks, with an 8.8% savings in relation to the average price, for the Atacama desert; and eight weeks, with a 6% savings, for the Argentine Patagonia.

BRAZIL
In Brazil, Foz do Iguaçu had the highest growth in searches with a record of 15%. The main tourist attractions of the region are the Iguaçu National Park and the reserve that houses the Iguaçu Falls. The latter is the largest set of waterfalls in the world and provides the encounter with various species of fauna and flora of the subtropical forest. The ten-week advance period is ideal to guarantee up to 19% savings on the purchase of flights.

Lençóis, in Chapada Diamantina, and Parnaíba, in Piauí, complete the list of Brazilian nature destinations that promise to attract many visitors in 2018. The first city is one of the gateways to the Chapada Diamantina National Park that gathers waterfalls, caves, caves , canyons, natural pools. The second is home to the Parnaíba Delta, a natural and unique sanctuary on the open ocean of the Americas.

HISTORICAL DESTINATIONS
Besides ecotourism, another trend for 2018 are historic destinations, with emphasis on Portugal and Andalusia. The first one counts on historical monuments, museums, monasteries and castles. Already the second one has fortresses (alcazabas), real residences (alcázares), mosques, gardens, churches and museums.
