Proving its strength as a tourist destination for Brazil, the Alentejo received 40,900 Brazilian guests in 2017, 38.6% more than the previous year’s total. With these results, the Brazilian market remained the third largest emitter of tourists to the region, in addition to being the fastest growing, followed by the United States (27%) and Ireland (26.4%).

The data released by the National Institute of Statistics of Portugal also show that, last year, visitors from Tupiniquins took advantage of the region’s attractions for a longer time, since destination accounted for a 25.1% increase in overnight stays, 60,200 in total. “It was a great year for Portugal! All this success is the result of constant promotion work. Our goal is to attract more and more visitors and present the vast tourism offer that the largest Portuguese region has to offer “, explains Vítor Silva, president of the Regional Agency for Tourism Promotion of Alentejo.

In 2017, Alentejo registered a total of 346,700 foreign guests and 627,000 overnight stays, an increase of 16.8% (total guests) and 15.9% (overnight stays) compared to the same period of 2016. In the largest region of Portugal had an increase of 18.4%, raising € 100.1 million.

Currently, Portugal enjoys great evidence in the tourism sector, especially in the Brazilian market. Last year, another 12 million foreigners were in the country, with 869,200 coming from Brazilian lands, 39% more than in 2016.
