The Qatari government has confirmed that it will exempt citizens from 80 countries that have visited their lands from previously issued visas. Depending on nationality, the visitor will be entitled to a multiple entry visa valid for 180 days, guaranteeing 90 days of stay in the country, or a 30-day visa with a chance to extend for another 30 – Brazilians are on the second list.
The list includes countries from all regions of the world, and exempts the tourist from any payment or prior procedure by visa. The document will be issued free of charge upon arrival in the country, only having to present a valid passport for at least six months from the date of entry, in addition to a confirmation of the departure date of Qatar.
With immediate effect, it serves both a recent Qatari tradition of opening its doors to citizens around the world and a response to the recent blockade imposed by neighbors such as Egypt, the United Arab Emirates and Saudi Arabia, who accuse the country of harboring terrorists.
“Today’s announcement places Qatar as the most open country in the [Persian Gulf] region. It is a defining occasion for Qatar, making the number of nations eligible to enter our country without a visa the largest in the region. Region, something that makes us very proud, “said Qatar Airways CEO Qatar national carrier Akbar Al Baker.
The release of visas adds to other recent measures of the local government to facilitate the entry of foreigners. Last month, an electronic visa service was launched, which is still valid for countries that are not on the list released today. Last year, the launch of the new multi-entry visas was already aimed at this goal.
