The political news of the Middle East in recent weeks has placed Qatar in a delicate situation vis-à-vis the Gulf countries. The market had expected the hurdle, which involves the refusal by neighboring nations to open their airspace for Catharian aircraft, to reflect negatively on the Qatar Airways operation. However, the air shows that it remains focused on its plans for international expansion.
Two new routes leaving Doha are scheduled to begin in August. From day 8, between the capital of Qatar and Sohar (Oman), and from day 21, to Prague (Czech Republic) – both operated on Airbus 320s. According to the airline, new ads will follow.
“Qatar Airways is committed to connecting more people to more places through our ‘five star’ hub at Hamad International Airport while supporting our global ‘Going Places Together’ campaign,” said company CEO Akbar Al Baker.
The executive goes on to say that “Qatar announcements come at a time when we accelerate our global expansion plans by launching these two new destinations.” According to the airline, 25 new destinations are expected to be announced soon, for 2017 and 2018, and will involve Brazil, with Rio de Janeiro.
