SeaWorld and Ocearch, a worldwide organization for the study of key marine species, have announced a long-term partnership to enhance the preservation and protection of marine animals and the world’s oceans. The announcement was made aboard the 38-meter M / V Ocearch research vessel, a floating science laboratory that is on this year’s first research expedition.
Ocearch’s global satellite tracker will be used on rescued, rehabilitated and returned marine animals, giving both the scientific community and the public the opportunity to learn more about endangered species. Data on three animals rescued and rehabilitated by SeaWorld are now available on Ocearch.org and access to the scientific community will be offered soon.
In addition, future M / V Ocearch missions, which will take place in May and September of this year, will now feature SeaWorld veterinarians, scientists and researchers, sharing knowledge and experience to enhance preservation research.
“SeaWorld is one of the world’s leading rescue organizations, and by using the satellite tracker on rehabilitated and returned animals, we’ll have another incredible way to share the next chapters in the lives of rescued animals. Working together, we hope to inspire the next generations of marine scientists every day, through our common love for the oceans, “said SeaWorld Zoo chief Dr. Chris Dold.
