As of this week, the world of cruises will win a new giant claiming the title of largest ship in the world. The ultra modern transatlantic Symphony of the Seas makes its maiden voyage across the Mediterranean Sea on April 7, leaving from the port of Barcelona. A suite with a waterslide inside the room and check-in with facial recognition are some of the latest innovations that will be implemented on the world’s new largest cruise ship.
Exceeding its sister ship Harmony of the Seas, the new Royal Caribbean cruise will be able to accommodate 5,500 passengers, totaling 230,000 gross tons.
The revolutionary Ultimate Family Suite will have 1,346 square feet of sheer fun for families of up to 8 people, who can enjoy the comfort of the own cabin of a particular 3D cinema (with popcorn machine and a video game library), a strategically located whirlpool on the 212-square-foot balcony, a LEGO climbing wall from floor to ceiling and an air hockey table.
To minimize waiting time at check-in, guests of the Symphony of the Seas can register using an app on their cell phone. Just upload a selfie in the application so that the image is used as facial recognition each time the guest returns to the ship.
In proportion to its size, the world’s largest ship will also have a wide variety of onboard entertainment that will make cruising trips even more fun, such as laser tagging, a new set of the musical Hairspray, the show Flight on the Invention of the Airplane and ice skating rink.
The Symphony of the Seas joins Allure, Oasis and Harmony of the Seas to complete the Oasis class fleet. That’s why some of the attractions of its sister ships will also be on the world’s biggest ship, such as the Ultimate Abyss, a 30-meter high toboggan, the famous Bionic Bar where drinks are served by robots, the simulator surf flowrider, AquaTheater outdoor acrobatics theater and Playmakers Sports Bar with 30 screens displaying a wide range of sports competitions.
