The Spanish government has agreed to maintain anti-terrorist alert level four, even after the attack in Barcelona last Thursday (17). However, security measures will be strengthened in places with large flows of people, such as tourist regions.

The Interior Minister, Juan Ignacio Zoido, asked the municipal councils to consider, together with security agencies, the installation of concrete barriers. These would be built in places that receive a lot of people, including tourists.

“We will redirect our efforts and adapt them to any place or area that needs special protection,” said Zoido. The goal of the dams is to avoid run-ins like last week, preventing the passage of the vehicle.

Already the level of anti-terror alert in the country follows the same: four. It represents “high” risk on a scale of up to five, corresponding to “very high” risk. The level has been active since June 2015.
